FIRST, we’ll divide the dialogues into two (2) parts. We’ll explore each part separately. You’ll learn handshape, hand position, and hand motion for all individual signs.

YOU’LL get LOTS of practice signing the first part of the dialogue. Then, you’ll learn and get LOTS of practice signing the second part of the dialogue.

NEXT, we’ll bring the two parts back together and sign the complete dialogue all at once without stopping. We’ll sign slowly at first, sign by sign, and speed up as we build confidence.

AFTER you’ve signed the complete dialogue, we’ll level up your skills with a two (2) part test on all signs from the dialogue. The test includes both 1) Signing and 2) Understanding.

AFTER TAKING THIS COURSE:

  • Students will have lots of experience signing complete dialogues in American Sign Language (ASL).
  • Students will know handshape, hand position, and hand motion for each sign in the course.
  • Students will be able to sign, recognize, and understand all signs taught in the course.

Hello! My name is Michael

When I was three years old, my younger brother became sick with spinal meningitis. In the process, my brother became deaf with an almost complete hearing loss. This difficult situation provided a unique opportunity for my family and I to become fluent in American Sign Language (ASL). My brother was not sent away to a deaf or hard of hearing school. He grew up with us, his hearing family, and we were active in the Deaf community.

As a former police officer and federal investigator, I often used ASL to communicate with and serve members of the Deaf community. I decided to create simple, step-by-step ASL courses because sign language is a useful and fun skill to have. Like learning any language, it opens your mind and creates the ability to communicate with a whole new group of people.
